Awakening for Earth emerged when a group of meditators in the Buddhist Insight tradition convened to share concerns around climate change and explore how to situate taking action within our spiritual practice.

We conceived of Sitting for Survival - meditating in public spaces to bear witness to our current planetary emergency. With the pandemic we moved our public sittings into our zoom room.

For the past two years we have continued this work, taken on entirely by volunteers with small donations to cover printing expenses and website.

Having established a presence not only online via our zoom Sittings, but also at Cambridge and with our first “Pod” in Newburyport launched, we are posed to start an outreach effort, inviting those in spiritual communities to join us and organizing other pods - our “Sit Everywhere” Campaign.

To do this we need to contract with a part-time coordinator who will

Coordinate our Sunday Sittings and bi-weekly planning meetings as well as maintain mutual support and connection with our Pods
Organize volunteers for outreach, recruitment and collaborative actions with other eco-activist organizations
Serve as our webmaster and work with our volunteer in charge of keeping up our presence on social media
And much more!

We will also need funds to keep our website up, produce our signs, and flyers that we distribute at our public sittings.
